I keep seeing people on motorcycles with handlebars that are extremely long and tall. Is this just fashion or is there a reason for these?
"Ape hangers" have been around for many years. Its just rider preference…one of the many styles that HD riders are into. They started out using that bar style in the 1970’s.

Yes Ape Hangers is the word, They don’t seem to practical although it looks pretty cool I cant imagine maneuvering in and out of traffic with a bike like that.

This is just a correction for Jon.Ape hangers came out in the 50’s.I remember my uncle trying to turn a Triumph Thunderbird 650 around our yard with his new Ape Hangers.After he dropped the bike for the third time and my old man quit laughing at him he took them off and turffed them into the weeds.

It is an accessory for guys that don’t care about safety or performance, they are just trying to look cool, and compensate for their small dix.
If they extend above eye level they are illegal.
