here in NC its not a separate license, its just an endorsement that you add to the license you already have, im sure its like that in all the other US states

There is certainly a motorcycle endorsement on your regular license required to RIDE a motorcycle.

There s only a regular license required to drive a motorcycle…. as in: on a trailer….. there is a difference.

I know in Indiana one needs a driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement.

It depends on the state.
MOST states require an "endorsement" on the regular license to operate a motorcycle. This requires both a written and driving test,just like with a car.
(There are some differences in the "rules", and certain rules that apply ONLY to motorcycles.)
